Singapore's Yale-NUS Saga

On 27 August 2021, the announcement of the merger of Yale-NUS sent shockwaves through the school community, faculty, and public alike. The source of frustration for the school community was that they were excluded from the decision-making process and had absolutely no say in the decision.

My message to all Yale-NUS professors and students is this: I feel you, and I am sorry this has happened. As you navigate the best way forward, I urge you to focus on fanning the flame of what you are passionate for, and you will emerge stronger!

The fact is, when tough decisions need to be made, one important thing has to be done. Consulting your people, and allowing them agency in the decision-making process, gives them empowerment and ownership.

Watch to find out how to make tough decisions that people respect.
