Leadership Coach Reacts: Tik Tok CEO Must Walk Funny!
JASON -
What's up guys!
This is your leadership coach, Jason and today we're going to be talking about the CEO of Tik Tok stepping down.
So, he recently sent out a memo to his organization about him making this move.
And this is really a great leadership lesson.
So let's see what he says.
He said this:
"I'm more interested in analyzing organizational and market principles and leveraging these theories to further reduce management work,"
And this is the part guys, this is the important part:
"rather than actually managing people."
Guys, managing people is tough work.
So this guy must walk really funny.
You know why?
Because this guy has big balls.
He has huge balls of humility and of vulnerability and that's something that's very rare.
When I coach so many different leaders in MNCs, that's a rare trait and this guy exhibits world-class leadership when number one, he's able to be vulnerable, and number two, he's able to be humble enough to share.
He could have done two things actually.
Two options he had - number one, learning about managing people, which is actually really tough.
Tough, but manageable and learnable actually.
And number two, he could actually do the second option which is what he did - get somebody else to help or next better player can actually help to manage and he steps down as CEO.
So that's what he did and what does this show as a leader?
If you're showing this to your organization, what you're actually saying is that: "Hey you know what? I'm being vulnerable."
And vulnerability is such a rare trait when it comes to leaders.
He's saying upfront that: "Hey you know what? It's difficult, it's tough for me. You know what Tik Tok? You can get the best out of me somewhere else compared to managing people."
And that's what he's sharing.
So the humility he has is really world class.
[LEARNING POINT]
So all of us as leaders, we can learn that how do we be vulnerable to our team, how to be vulnerable to our organization.
Because when vulnerability comes, trust is gained because now people see you as a human being that's struggling with certain aspects of your role.
So this is really gold standard in terms of leadership and I encourage all leaders out there to really be vulnerable to your guys and don't fear that they'll look at you differently, look at you lower.
Understand that you're bringing the humanity back into leadership and when you bring the humanity back into leadership, you gain a following, you gain that trust, you gain that synergy that you have with your team.
If you like this video, please give a thumbs up or comment below on what you really liked about it or even tell me what's the next thing that you want me to react to.
So that's a wrap guys so this is your leadership coach, and I'll see you in the next video.
